One of the most important goals I have for myself here in Bonn is to try and get myself into shape. That, and learn as much German as possible.
There are several public pools in Bonn so I'll be able to continue with my swimming routine, in addition to taking several different exercise classes. One of the pools happens to be just a couple of blocks away from our apartment! Unfortunately it doesn't have a sauna or hot tub like our YWCA at home. But it is quite convenient!
Dan and I visited another pool on Sunday, one located within walking distance of the Goethe Institute, where I'll be spending my mornings Monday through Friday. We were thinking it would be quite easy for me to go swimming here after my German classes. And it has a sauna!
I was hoping to get a look at this swimming facility, but when we tried to speak to the receptionist in English she didn't know how to help us. Daniel tried speaking to her in his very good, but not perfect, Deutsch, and she tried telling us something but we didn't understand. Thankfully a young couple entering the building offered to speak to us in English, and then proceeded to explain to us that every first Sunday of the month is Adam and Eve Day at this pool, and everybody in the pool today is naked!
I didn't believe it at first, but when I saw how serious they looked, and how excited they were to get their naked swim on, I understood. I mean, I guess this is Europe!
