I was lucky enough to get a window seat on my jam packed flight into Amsterdam, but unfortunately my neighbor in the next seat smelled so much like cigarette smoke that I had to beg for a different seat assignment. The prospects looked pretty slim up until the last minute before take-off, when the flight attendant was able to shuffle some people around and offer me a seat on one of the aisles, which I happily accepted.
I arrived in Amsterdam at 9 in the morning, where I promptly got both of my bags off the luggage carousel and headed for the International Train Station within the airport to wait for Daniel. We had arranged for me to call him when I arrived, but for some reason my cell phone wasn't able to make a connection and I had to use a European pay phone. And that is where he found me, struggling to make sense of the Dutch instructions and cursing T-mobile.
Our train ride down the Rhine back to Bonn was pretty uneventful. Both of us had had very long and intense mornings, so we basically slept through the rolling Dutch hills and the German country side. Luckily, we'll have a lot of time for sightseeing later.
After my first home-cooked meal in weeks, I showered off my flight, and hopped into our surprisingly comfortable European double bed. I must admit I was expecting a shitty mattress, but slept through most of the night and woke up quite well rested this morning.
And now we're off for a walk around town. Our apartment is smack dab in the middle of the city. We're surrounded by bars, cafes, a daily farmers market, and small design shops. I'll bring the camera along and post pictures later today.
Much Love To All,
Deborah
